Hamburg’s Basketball Miracle

A portrait of coach Nyaradzai Ngwerume and a rising U19 program

The NTSV Wildcats U19 are competing in Germany’s top youth league (NBBL)—a remarkable step for a neighborhood club in Niendorf. At the heart of this rise stands head coach Nyaradzai Ngwerume, whose calm authority, discipline, and care have shaped a diverse group of players into a united team.

From Zimbabwe to Niendorf

Ngwerume’s journey led her from Zimbabwe to Hamburg, where she now coaches with a style that is quiet, clear, and consistent. She sees the Wildcats as her “chosen family,” and the program has grown under her guidance—now counting 20+ athletes in the U19 squad and a vibrant pipeline below.

More than just one team

Beyond the NBBL group, Ngwerume also supports other teams at the club, including U16, and even the youngest age groups. She balances this commitment with work and family life, proving that a strong program can be built on structure, care, and persistence.

“Identity, discipline, and togetherness—that’s how we compete every week.”
